BioPlate® Titanium Mesh with Bone Augmentation Protocol

  1. Mesh cage preparation (product supplied non-sterile):
    1.    Take alginate of defect area and pour cast model
    2.    Overfill defect area by 15% on the model with wax
    3.    Place dental foil over wax
    4.    Cut white cardboard backing (packed with mesh) for desired bone restoration on model
      1. ALTERNATIVE ***  The cardboard can be used as a template intraorally and cut to size
    5.    Using the white cardboard as a pattern, cut titanium mesh to size
    6.    Alcohol wash cardboard and sterilize titanium mesh for clinical use

  2. Surgery  

    1.    Full thickness flap with buccal vertical incisions releasing bilaterally one tooth beyond surgical site
    2.    Debride and decorticate surgical site with #4 round bur
    3.    Make holes through cortex to the endosteum with #1 round bur
    4.    Using Blood SyringeSM with large stainless steel orifice, collect 5 mL of blood and mix with 1.5 gram OsteoGen®
      and 2.0 cc OsteoDemin demineralized bone
    5.    Control profuse bleeding with surgical gauze or hemostatic agent to avoid migration of bone augmentation material
    6.     Secure mesh lingually with one or two BioPlate® tacks
    7.    Place bone putty mixture onto defect site and against titanium to fill defect
    8.    Bend titanium buccally and secure with two BioPlate® tacks
    9.     Underscore periosteal flap to separate tissue from bone and attain primary closure
    10.     CollaTape® wound dressing is required if primary closure is not attainable
